Seven State Medicaid Programs Cover Structured Family Caregiving Services To Help Older Adults Remain In Their Homes
As of August 2022, at least seven state Medicaid programs cover structured family caregiving (SFC) services, which ultimately helps older adults and/or people with disabilities remain in their homes. These states include Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, and South Dakota. SFC services consist of a package of services that support Medicaid home- and community-based services (HCBS) waiver participants’ primary caregivers, which are usually loved ones. SFC is designed to allow the caregiver to make their role their primary focus.
