Small, Private For-Profit Hospitals Had Lowest Rate Of Health Care-Associated Infections
Small, private, for-profit hospitals had the lowest health care-associated infection (HAI) rates for adult inpatient stays in 2019 and 2021. The lowest and highest HAI rates per 100,000 adult inpatient stays in 2019 ranged from 156.8 for private, for-profit hospitals to 422.5 for public, non-federal hospitals. In 2021, the rate ranged from 193.4 for private, for-profit hospitals to 550.5 for public, non-federal hospitals. Large, public, non-federal, teaching, and metropolitan hospitals consistently had higher HAI rates than their counterparts in 2019 and 2021.
