Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Communities Have Significantly Less Access To Dialysis Care
Residents of the most socioeconomically disadvantaged communities are significantly less likely to have access to dialysis care, according to a recent study. Individuals in these communities were 5.6 times more likely to have no dialysis facility within a 30-minute drive compared to those in the most advantaged areas.
The disparity extends to overall treatment capacity. The most advantaged communities had an average of approximately 31 dialysis stations per 1,000 residents within a 30-minute drive, compared to 13.2 stations in the most disadvantaged communities—a gap of nearly 18 stations per 1,000 residents. Access declined . . .
