South Carolina Enters Settlement Agreement In Foster Care Lawsuit
On June 3, 2016, South Carolina officials and attorneys for plaintiff children advocating for foster care reform agreed to a settlement agreement in a class lawsuit, Michelle H. v. Haley, which was filed in 2015 to protest a shortage of foster homes, excessive caseworker caseloads, and the state’s failure to provide basic health care. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 24, 2016. Final court approval is anticipated by the fall of 2016.
