Specialist Visits Increase Likelihood Of Adults With Diabetes & I/DD Receiving All Four Components Of Diabetes Care
Adults with co-occurring diabetes and intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) who visited a specialist (such as a endocrinologist or diabetes educator) were more than three times more likely to receive all four components of diabetes care than those of this population who see a primary care physician only. Based on the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) specifications for the Comprehensive Diabetes Care (CDC) measure, the four components of comprehensive diabetes care include a diabetic eye exam; kidney disease monitoring; blood sugar control; and blood pressure control.
