Steady Decline In Lifetime Non-Medical Use Of Prescription Stimulants For Adolescent ADHD
The percentage of adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who reported using non-prescribed stimulants at some point showed a steady decline from 2005 to 2023, hitting its lowest level of 4.69% in 2023, down from 10.03% in 2005, according to a recent study. The percentage of adolescents with ADHD who reported using both prescribed and non-prescribed stimulants also declined between 2005 and 2023. The researchers offered no conclusions but noted that the findings were consistent with declines in peer-to-peer diversion among adolescents following COVID-19-related school closures.
