Suicidal Thoughts & Attempts Common Among Texas Youth Treated For Depression
Nearly half of Texas youth who screened positive for moderate to severe depression and anxiety reported one or more lifetime suicide attempts and 90% reported past or current suicidal ideation. The data was from the Texas Youth Depression and Suicide Research Network (TX-YDSRN) created in 2020. Based on data for the first 1,000 youth with data in the TX-YDSRN, 79.6% had primary depressive disorder. Youth with past or current suicidality had greater illness severity, lower resilience, and higher rates of trauma exposure than those without suicidal behaviors or ideation.
