Suicide Risk Linked To Local Deprivation Of Economic & Social Factors
County-level economic and social conditions are associated with a difference in suicide rates among people ages 10 to over age 65. Three factors—insurance coverage rates, broadband internet access, and household income above the federal poverty level (FPL)—had the most impact. In 2022, the overall suicide rate was 14.2 per 100,000 population. Suicide rates were higher for the following demographic factors: non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native (AI/AN) persons (27.1), males (23.0), and rural residents (20.0).
