Median Survival Time For People With Dementia Is Six Years
The median survival time for people with dementia is six years. Median survival time depended on the type of dementia. Survival times vary from 6.4 years for those with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), 6.2 years for those with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease, 5.7 years for those with vascular dementia (VaD), 5.1 years for those with dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The median survival time was 3.6 years in those with rarer forms of dementia (including corticobasal degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Huntington’s disease, and dementia of unspecified aetiology.
