2021 Telehealth Visit Volume 38 Times Higher Than In 2019
U.S. telehealth visit volume in 2021 is 38 times higher than in 2019. In 2019, about 11% of U.S. health care consumers used telehealth, while about 46% were using telehealth in 2021. Most consumers were using telehealth to replace cancelled health care visits.
As of February 2021, 50% of all psychiatry visit claims were for telehealth visits, and 30% of addiction treatment claims were telehealth visits. Telehealth visits were also prominent for endocrinology (17% of claims), rheumatology (17% of claims), gastroenterology (13% of claims), and neurological medicine (13% of claims).
