Tennessee To Verify Immigration Status Of Children Receiving Disability Services & Report Ineligible Applicants To Federal Authorities

The Tennessee Department of Health will begin verifying the immigration status of children with disabilities served through the state's Children’s Special Services (CSS) program beginning July 1, 2026. The new requirement applies to eligibility determinations for the state-funded program. According to information provided by the state, applicants who lack citizenship or a qualifying legal immigration status may be referred to federal immigration authorities as required under state law.
