Texas Acts To Limit Liability For Foster Family Agencies

On June 20, 2025, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed legislation to limit the liability of foster family agencies. The stated intention of the legislation is to ensure that the agencies can continue to obtain liability insurance. Texas Enrolled Senate Bill (SB) 1558 goes into effect on September 1, 2025. The law will apply to non-profit foster family agencies contracted with the Department of Family and Protective Services or with a single source continuum contractor (SSCC) to provide community-based care or child welfare services.;
