Texas Cancels Plan To Privatize Terrell State Hospital; Award To GEO Care Canceled

On March 25, 2015, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) canceled its plan to privatize operations of the 288-bed Terrell State Hospital and the tentative award it made in October 2014 to GEO Care, LLC. The cancellation was announced the same day as the State Auditor’s Office issued a report critical of the procurement process HHSC followed. HHSC has no plans to re-issue the procurement or seek to privatize other state hospitals.
