Texas Expanding Community-Based Child Welfare Model Into Central Texas & Austin Area

Texas is expanding its community-based child welfare model into Central Texas and the Austin area, shifting foster and kinship care placements, case management, purchased services, and reunification services for children and youth in state custody from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) to contracted community-based organizations. The expansion will bring two additional service areas into a model Texas has been implementing since 2019 and will require the selected contractors to simultaneously transition to the state's new foster care service and payment model.
