Texas Legislation Will Prevent Limits On The Number Of Special Education Students

The Texas legislature passed legislation preventing the Texas Education Agency from setting targets or performance benchmarks on the number of special education students. The legislation, Texas Senate Bill (SB) 160, was passed in response to media reports that described the impact of a TEA policy implemented in 2004 as part of its Performance-Based Monitoring Analysis System, which set an 8.5% performance target for the total number of children receiving special education services in a school district.
