Texas Medicaid Medication Therapy Management Pilot Saved Medicaid $30 For Each $1 In Program Cost
The Texas Medicaid Medication Therapy Management (MTM) 18-month pilot saved the state about $30 in avoided costs for each $1 spent to run the MTM program. Between April 27, 2012 to October 29, 2013, 164 adult Medicaid beneficiaries with hypertension and taking at least four maintenance medications were enrolled in the pilot. Within this group, 81 had complete Medicaid medical and prescription claims data spanning the year before and during enrollment in MTM. For this group, mean total health care costs savings were about $8,600 per person, which generated aggregate total cost savings of $696,591.
