Texas To Launch Seven New State Psychiatric Hospital Projects

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is launching seven new state hospital projects to include two new hospitals, two replacement hospitals, and three expansion projects. The goal is to increase access to inpatient psychiatric beds. The projects are funded by a $1.5 billion appropriation granted in 2023. The new projects were announced on June 20, 2024.

The following projects are in various stages of planning and design. The announcement noted that many are slated for construction later this year. The new construction projects are as follows:
