Those Over Age 55 Have A 42% Risk Of Developing Dementia; New Dementia Cases Will Increase To One Million Cases Per Year By 2060
At age 55, the lifetime risk of developing dementia is 42%. The risk is 4% by age 75 years, 20% by age 85 and more than half of the risk is after age 85 years. The risk was substantially higher, at 45% to 60%, among women, Black adults, and those with a higher genetic risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
