Three-Quarters Of Private Practice Therapists Earn Less Than $100,000

About 73% of private practice mental health therapists reported earning less than $100,000 in gross therapy income during 2023, and 89% reported net income from their therapy practice below $100,000. About 37% reported gross income less than $50,000, and 51% reported net income below $50,000. About 5% of therapists had gross income of more than $200,000, but only 1% reported net income above $200,000. In 2022, 55% of therapists reported gross therapy income below $100,000, and 65% reported net income below $100,000.
