Three States Plan To Implement Medicaid Work Requirements Before January 2027 Federal Deadline
Three states (Iowa, Montana, and Nebraska) are planning to implement Medicaid work and community engagement requirements before the federal implementation date of January 1, 2027. Beginning January 1, 2027, 43 states and the District of Columbia will be required to implement Medicaid work and community engagement requirements for adults covered through Medicaid expansion or partial expansion waiver programs. Arkansas also plans a soft launch during 2026 but will not begin disenrollments until January 2027.
