Nearly Two Thirds Of Nursing Homes That Graduated From The Federal Program To Improve Nursing Home Quality Were Unable To Sustain Performance
Nearly two-thirds of nursing homes that graduated from the federal Special Focus Facility (SFF) program were unable to sustain the improvements made during the program, according to a program analysis by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The OIG found that between 2013 and 2022, 64% of the SFF facilities that had graduated from the program (318 of 495) received a serious deficiency citation within three years, indicating that improvements made while in the program had not been sustained.
