U.S. Begins Revoking Passports For Individuals Owing $100,000+ In Child Support Debt

The U.S. State Department began revoking passports on May 8, 2026, for individuals with significant delinquent child support debt. The first phase of enforcement targets passport holders who owe $100,000 or more in unpaid child support. About 2,700 current U.S. passport holders are affected.

The State Department plans to expand enforcement to passport holders owing lower delinquent amounts, including those owing $2,500 or more. The revocations enforce an existing federal law requiring Americans to comply with child support obligations to obtain or maintain a U.S. passport.
