U.S. Drug Spending Up 10.2% In 2024

U.S. prescription drug expenditures rose to $805.9 billion in 2024, which was an increase of 10.2% over the previous year, according to a new report from the trade association American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). This included an increase in clinic drug spending of 14.4%, to $158.2 billion in 2024. Nonfederal hospitals saw less of an increase in drug spending, at 4.9% ($39.0 billion).

For 2025, ASHP projected that drug spending in the U.S. will increase between 9% and 11%. Clinic drug expenditures are projected to increase between 11% and 13 . . .
