U.S. I/DD Spending Reached $105 Billion In 2023, Driven By Medicaid Growth
Total public spending on services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) reached $105 billion in fiscal year 2023, up from $94 billion in 2019, according to a recent report. The increase continues a long-term upward trend in I/DD spending that dates back to the late 1970s.
The spending estimate is based on a 40-year dataset tracking revenue, expenditures, and program trends across all 50 states and the District of Columbia as part of The State of the States in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities project.
Medicaid accounted for the majority of spending, totaling $87 billion . . .
