U.S. Syphilis Cases In Newborns Increase 755% During 2012 To 2022
The number of babies born with syphilis in the United States increased by 755% between 2012 and 2022, from 334 in 2012 and 3,761 in 2022. Syphilis during pregnancy can lead to stillbirth, miscarriage, infant death, and maternal and infant morbidity. In 2022, these cases included 231 stillbirths (6% of cases) and 51 infant deaths (1% of cases).
