U.S. Uninsured Rate Drops by 26% Since 2019
The number of Americans without health insurance has declined by 26% since 2019, from 33.2 million in 2019 to 25.0 million in 2023. According to early estimates of health insurance coverage by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), the percentage of the population without insurance declined from 10.3% to 7.6% during this time period. Among working age adults (ages 18 to 64), the uninsured rate has declined steadily from 14.7% in 2019 to 12.2% in 2022 to 10.9% in 2023.
