U.S. Veterans With Depression At 14% Higher Risk Of Heart Failure

U.S. veterans with depression were 14% more likely to develop heart failure (HF) than veterans without depression, according to an analysis of data from the Veterans Affairs (VA) Birth Cohort study. These findings are independent of traditional sociodemographic and cardiovascular risk factors for HF. The researchers concluded that depression may be a modifiable risk factor for HF.

The researchers analyzed sociodemographic and clinical data for more than 2.8 million U.S. veterans using data obtained from the VA Corporate Data Warehouse for January 1, 2000, through October 1, 2015. The analysis included participants born between 1945 and 1965 . . .
