Updated Veterans Affairs & HUD Policy Increases Access To Housing For Veterans On Disability

On August 8, 2024, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) updated income definitions and limits for HUD-Veterans Affairs (VA) Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH) vouchers so more veterans will qualify. The changes include a change in the percentage of area median income (AMI) needed to quality and the definition of income.

AMI changes: Public housing agencies (PHAs) must set HUD-VASH voucher income limits at 80% AMI. Previously, PHAs were allowed to chose to set the income limit at either 50% AMI or 80% AMI. The VA anticipates that with this change, up to 3 . . .
