Virginia Medicaid Adds Dental Benefits For Adults
On July 1, 2021, the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) added Medicaid dental benefits for adults age 21 and older with full Medicaid benefits. Previously, dental benefits for diagnostic and preventive services were available only for children and pregnant members through the Medicaid Smiles For Children program. Prior to July 1, 2021, adult members were guaranteed access only to emergency services, which included extractions. The Virginia Medicaid dental program, Smiles For Children, continues to be managed by DentaQuest.
More than 750,000 adult Medicaid members now have coverage for routine cleanings and preventative care. The covered services include . . .
