Virginia Medicaid Expands Postpartum Coverage To Nearly 6,000 People
On November 18, 2021, the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) received federal approval to extend Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) coverage for the postpartum period from 60 days to 365 days. The Medicaid agency estimates the new policy will extend coverage for more than 6,000 members per year. The extended coverage will be available to pregnant and postpartum members in 2022, pending state confirmation.
