Virginia Medicaid Waiver Extension Proposes IMD Addiction Treatment & Expands Coverage For Former Foster Youth
On July 26, 2024, the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) submitted a five-year extension request for its Section 1115 Building and Transforming Coverage, Services, and Supports for a Healthier Virginia (BTCSSHV) demonstration. The extension seeks to cover addiction disorder treatment services to individuals who are short-term residents in residential treatment facilities that meet the definition for an institution of mental disease (IMD). The extension would also provide Medicaid coverage for former foster care youth (FFCY) up to age 26 who aged out in another state. The federal public comment period will run through September 4.
