Washington Legislature Awards $10.6 Million For Stipends To Youth Exiting Extended Foster Care

On April 21, 2022, the State of Washington awarded $10.6 million to the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) to pay cash stipends to youth who are exiting extended foster care (EFC). DCYF’s EFC program allows young adults in foster care to continue receiving foster care services after their 18th birthday until they turn 21.

DCYF partnered with Treehouse to distribute the stipend to young adults aging out of EFC through June 2023. There are currently approximately 850 young adults who are eligible for stipends.
