Wellcare Creates Safety Net Transportation Service For Its Medicaid Members In Rural Kentucky

On April 14, 2016, WellCare of Kentucky, announced it created a transportation service for its Medicaid members in rural Muhlenberg County. With a $2,000 investment from WellCare, a transportation voucher system was created to subsidize the cost of transportation to medical appointments, hospitals, pharmacies, dental, and vision services. The transportation services are provided by Pennyrile Allied Community Services, Inc. (PACS). The goal is to help WellCare’s Medicaid members in the county have better access to health care services, and WellCare anticipates that this will result in better health status, more frequent use of preventative services, and lower hospitalization . . .
