West Virginia DHHR To Launch Behavioral Health Court Diversion Program
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) is planning to implement a “Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion” (LEAD) program for people with addiction or mental health disorders. Through LEAD, low-risk offenders with behavioral health disorders can be diverted from the criminal court to community-based treatment services, such as assertive community treatment, residential addiction treatment services, comprehensive case management, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT). DHHR does not currently fund any LEAD sites, but is aware of at least two LEAD sites currently operating, one in Huntington and another in Charleston.
