West Virginia Expands Medicaid Addiction Treatment Continuum

The West Virginia Medicaid plan is expanding the state’s addiction treatment coverage to include medication-assisted treatment (MAT) as of January 16, 2018, and residential treatment starting in July 2018. The services will be delivered through the state’s Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs). Coverage of these new services is under West Virginia's 1115 Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Waiver, which was approved by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on October 6, 2017, with an effective date of January 1, 2018.
