Worldwide Obesity Prevalence Has More Than Doubled Over The Last 30 Years
Worldwide obesity rates more than doubled between 1990 and 2022. During that time, the obesity rate among women grew from 8.8% to 18.5%, while the rate among men increased from 4.8% to 14.0%. The prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents quadrupled during the same period, rising from 1.7% to 6.9% for girls, and from 2.1% to 9.3% for boys. More than 1 billion people worldwide had obesity as of 2022.
