Youth Cannabis Use Associated With Slower Cognitive Development & Reduced Gains In Memory, Attention & Processing Speed

Youth ages 9 to 17 who use cannabis have slower gains in memory, focus, and thinking speed compared to non-users, according to a recent study. They also have worse memory performance over time. The researchers said the outcomes highlight the potential impact of cannabis use on brain development during adolescence. Youth who used cannabis had better cognitive performance during late childhood, with reduced improvements or flattened trajectories over time.
