Request for Comment Regarding the Stage 3 Definition of Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Records (EHRs)

The federal Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) Health Information Technology Policy Committee is accepting public comment through due January 14, 2013 on its proposals for Stage 3 of the Meaningful Use incentive program for health information technology. The ONC seeks to shift the focus of the Meaningful Use incentive program toward using health information technology in a collaborative way that includes patients and families. Initially the Meaningful Use program provided incentive payments to eligible provider organizations and professionals for implementing certified electronic health records and sharing information with other professionals and organizations involved in a patient’s care.
