300+ Industry Leaders Gather At The 2022 OPEN MINDS Management Best Practices Institute To Focus On Service Systems For Consumers With Complex Conditions
Gettysburg, PA (September 6, 2022) – More than 300 industry executives gathered in Newport Beach, CA, for The 2022 OPEN MINDS Management Best Practices Institute from August 30th through September 1st. The three-day event included The OPEN MINDS Children’s Services Executive Summit, sponsored by Akili, Inc.; two executive seminars, and over 20 executive sessions featuring industry thought leaders.

April Hamilton, MBA, MHSA, Executive Deputy Director for NYS Department of Health, led the OPEN MINDS Children’s Services Executive Summit with her keynote, “Integrated Care Models For Children: What Is Working In New York & Beyond.” Ms. Hamilton shared the New York State Department of Health approach and integrated care model that creates a safety net of services. Attendees also heard from Dr. Crystal Taylor-Dietz, National Director of Behavioral Health Services at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, who shared insights into alternative ways of meeting the needs of children experiencing a mental health crisis or concern and the need for bridge services and follow-through into the community. Pamela Reed, M.S, Executive Director Devereux Texas, and Todd Harris, Ph.D., Executive Director of Autism Services, from Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health; and Patsy McMelleon, Manager, Outpatient Speech-Language Therapy Services for The Children’s Institute presented innovative programs and supportive services for children with complex medical and mental health needs. Wednesday’s sessions kicked off with a focus on the recently launched 988 national suicide prevention hotline with a keynote from Wendy Martinez Farmer, LPC, MBA, CEO Georgia Collaborative ASO, Beacon Health Options. Ms. Martinez Farmer spoke to the heightened awareness of mental health issues and the potential increase in mental health referrals. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in an exclusive tour of the Illumination Foundation, which has developed a unique integrated, whole-person approach to serving the homeless with a structured approach to health, mental health, and shelter.
Kevin Arnold, Ph.D., Senior Executive Director, CCBT, Inc, A Part of Refresh Mental Health, Inc., A Part of Optum, started the final day with his keynote outlining opportunities for provider organizations to join payvider partnerships, as well as gauging their impact.
Throughout the institute, attendees gathered knowledge on building value-based payer partnerships and contracts, financial management, developing new service models, and innovative treatment models.
OPEN MINDS CEO, Monica Oss, closed out the Institute on Thursday with her keynote “Managing Through The Post-Pandemic Pivot Point”, providing an update on the health and human service mega-trends and their implications for organizational revenue and margins now and in the future. She also outlined the seven executive best practices to help navigate any organization to future success.
