Abraham Lincoln As The Ideal Leader — Harold Holzer To Deliver Leadership Lesson at The 2017 OPEN MINDS Executive Leadership Retreat
GETTYSBURG, Pa. (September 24, 2017) — OPEN MINDS announced that Harold Holzer, Director of The Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute and the country’s leading Abraham Lincoln scholar, will deliver a featured leadership lesson at the 2017 OPEN MINDS Executive Leadership Retreat. This three-day executive education event will be held on September 26-28, 2017 at the historic Gettysburg Hotel in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
When Abraham Lincoln took office in 1861, he faced a set of challenges that no American president before or since has encountered, with many declaring him to be the “ideal leader.” During this session, “You Were Right & I Was Wrong: How Abraham Lincoln Owned His Mistakes, & Accepted Responsibility, As An Ideal Leader,” taking place at the Majestic Theatre in Gettysburg on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 3:00 PM, Harold Holzer will discuss President Abraham Lincoln as a leader, his leadership characteristics, and his decision-making styles. Mr. Holzer will also teach attendees how lessons in leadership from over 150 years ago still apply today.
Harold Holzer is a scholar of Abraham Lincoln and on the political culture of the American Civil War Era. He is currently the Jonathan F. Fanton Director of The Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College in New York, a post he assumed in 2015 after 23 years as senior vice president of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. He won the Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize and four other awards in 2015 for his book, Lincoln and the Power of the Press. Mr. Holzer previously served as a Roger Hertog Fellow at the New-York Historical Society. In 2016-2017, he served as the Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Zahava and Moshael Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought at Yeshiva University. He was also a script consultant to the Steven Spielberg film, Lincoln, and wrote the official young reader’s companion book to the movie.
Held annually in historic Gettysburg, the 2017 OPEN MINDS Executive Leadership Retreat is an immersive leadership experience focused on maximizing organizational performance through the development of the executive. This event, which projects over 250 attendees, aims to provide the leadership tools health and human services executives need to collaborate, manage change, and maximize their organizational performance. This program is designed specifically to provide key industry leaders with the strategy insights, business tools, and personal resiliency they need to tackle the unique challenges of a changing health and human service market. During this event, attendees will have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the Civil War’s legendary leaders to learn how their challenges, success – and even defeat – provide great leadership lessons that can, and should be, applied today.
