LADD’s Chief Strategy Officer To Present Smart Living—Innovative Approaches in I/DD Support—The LADD Case Study Circle Elite Roundtable
Gettysburg, Pa. (March 20, 2022) – Specialty care provider organizations have been struggling with adequate staffing levels and reimbursement rates, especially for those serving consumers with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). New approaches to care and treatment are being piloted, and proving the results are worth the investment. On Thursday, March 24 at 1 pm ET, OPEN MINDS will present “Smart Living—Innovative Approaches in I/DD Support—The LADD Case Study,” an OPEN MINDS Circle Elite Roundtable. The one-hour session will feature Brian Hart, chief strategy officer of LADD (Living Arrangements for the Developmentally Disabled), a Cincinnati non-profit serving adults with developmental disabilities. LADD has embarked on setting a new standard for how I/DD services are delivered using a true ‘technology first’ model of service delivery they call smart living. Raymond Wolf, OPEN MINDS Senior Associate, will lead the discussion on the development and piloting of the model, as well as the outcomes during this open session.
“With over 7 million people living in the U.S. with I/DD, staffing limitations, and struggles with reimbursement rates, a new approach is needed to serve this community,” noted Monica Oss, chief executive officer of OPEN MINDS. “Utilizing technology and a hybrid model of service delivery can provide better care in a more financially sustainable way.”
The LADD model focuses on solving for an individual’s needs using technology as the first means of support, with in-person interventions incorporated as needed, and only when it adds value. Backed by experts who have been in the field for decades, LADD’s technology partners have developed technology to fit the needs of these individuals. The model is supported by research conducted by Xavier University’s School of Occupational Therapy and has shown to save over a hundred hours per week per site in direct staff needs, and reduces the cost exponentially to support more individuals, at a lower cost, with better outcomes towards the individual’s independence. During the session, Mr. Hart will share with executive attendees the ‘technology first’ model of service delivery, how to develop a hybrid service model utilizing specialized technology, and the importance of tracking outcomes to determine return-on-investment in new service delivery models.
As LADD’s chief strategy officer, Brian Hart has made it his mission to push the boundaries of what options exist for adults with disabilities. He is never satisfied and believes there is always a better way to increase independence of others, and break down the systemic barriers that hold them back. Brian has been on the forefront of expanding services through the use of technology enabled supports and community clusters of services.
