Gettysburg, Pa. (January 30, 2022) – OPEN MINDS will host a Circle Elite Executive Roundtable on Thursday, February 3 at 1:00 pm ET featuring Pressley Ridge President and Chief Executive Officer Susanne Cole and Joyce James, Chief Executive Officers of Joyce James Consulting. During the one-hour session, Best Practices To Break Racial Barriers & Address Structural Racism: The Pressley Ridge Case Study, Cole and James will present the analysis and strategy in Pressley Ridge’s journey to addressing institutional and structural racism in their organization. OPEN MINDS Senior Associate Ray Wolfe, J.D. will moderate.
“Addressing institutional and structural racism as part of organizational strategy strengthens not only the organization, but the community as a whole,” shared Monica Oss, chief executive officer of OPEN MINDS. “It must become part of treating the whole-person, as part of social determinants of health both through evaluating the consumer and the approach to staffing.”
Executive leaders will have an opportunity to understand how Pressley Ridge developed a strategy for addressing disparities. The approach has included considering culture and diversity when matching clinical staff to consumers; addressing social determinants of health in treatment plans; and prioritizing equality in professional growth programs. The presentation will include how to identify racial disparities in health and human service programs, using data to chart a course of action to address racism, best practices in changing organizational policies and practices for long-term impact
Appointed President and CEO in 2011, Susanne Cole oversees all strategic leadership and the fiscal, operational, and administrative management of Pressley Ridge. Since joining the team in 1990, Cole has served as Executive Director of West Virginia and Virginia, Senior VP of Programs, and Chief Operating Officer. She has developed expertise in strategic planning, board governance, management/leadership development, financial planning, program operations, marketing/communications, quality improvement, and fundraising/development.
Joyce James has 40 years working to improve outcomes for children, youth, and families, beginning her career as a child protective services (CPS) caseworker. During her career, she has serves as Assistant Commissioner of Texas CPS and held leadership positions for the Center for Elimination of Disproportionality and Disparities and the Texas State Office of Minority Health at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. She was honored with the 2019 National Association of Social Workers-Texas Chapter Lifetime Achievement Award. Her consulting focuses on supporting and developing leaders through race equity analysis using data and racial equity principles leading to system transformation and achievement of equity.
Ray Wolfe, J.D., serves as an OPEN MINDS Senior Associate, bringing over 40 years of experience in the health and human services sector. His expertise includes financial analysis and management, mergers and acquisitions, performance improvement, and strategic planning. Wolfe spent 22 years with Pittsburgh Mercy Health Systems in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, prior to joining the OPEN MINDS team.
