Medicaid, Digital Medicine, & Integration Top The Agenda At Sold-Out OPEN MINDS 2015 Strategy & Innovation Institute In New Orleans
GETTYSBURG, Pa. (June 28, 2015) — OPEN MINDS, a leading health and human service market intelligence and management support firm, concluded the highly anticipated 2015 OPEN MINDS Strategy and Innovation Institute last week. Hundreds of the industry’s leading executives gathered in New Orleans, Louisiana for the sold-out event focused on the emerging financing models, service delivery methods, and technological innovations shaping the health and human service system.
Jeff Myers, President & CEO of Medicaid Health Plans of America, opened the institute with his presentation, “The Innovations In Medicaid Managed Care Shaping The Current & Future Market.” In the session, Mr. Myers provided a view of the Medicaid landscape, the changing role of health plans, and why risk sharing is the logical conclusion. The second day of the institute opened with a panel presentation, “Digital Medicine In U.S. Health Care: Payers Who Are Making It Work.” Panel members included Elizabeth Holden, Program Director, Commercial Products at UPMC Health Plan, Terri Cox Glassen, Director, Clinical Program Development at Cigna, and Mike Manocchia, Ph.D., Director & Senior Scientist at Cigna. The panel members discussed how their organizations are using consumer technologies and how these technologies have changed their relationships with consumers and provider organizations. The final day of the institute opened with a panel presentation by Daniel Fishbein, Ph.D., Vice President, Corporate Business Development at Jefferson Center for Mental Health, and Dennis Freeman, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer at Cherokee Health Systems. In their presentation, “What Makes Integrated Care Work? Perspectives From Organizations With A Successful Track Record,” the executives discussed their organizations’ paths to integration, the service delivery models they have created, how they work with payers under this model, and their advice for other providers considering how to expand their practice into primary care.
Monica E. Oss, Chief Executive Officer, OPEN MINDS closed the event with her plenary session, “Taking Innovation From Concept To Reality.” Ms. Oss addressed the importance of innovation to strategy, the challenges (both external and internal) in the innovation adoption cycle, and the key elements to make adoption and rapid implementation possible in your market and in your organization.
