Gettysburg, Pa. This one-of-a-kind retreat features in-depth educational case studies and sessions, inspiring keynote addresses, and executive panels designed to provide health and human service leaders with the strategic insights, business practice models, and personal resiliency tools they need to tackle the unique challenges of a changing health and human service market.

The 2022 OPEN MINDS Care Innovation Summit, sponsored by NextGen Healthcare, will start us off on Tuesday, October 4, providing an overview of the trends driving innovation in the health and human service market, a review of the OPEN MINDS strategic framework for launching sustainable treatment programs, and a deep dive into cutting-edge new clinical programs that ensure consumers have access to the right services and supports at the right time. The morning’s keynote: “The Behavioral Health Epidemic – How Banner University Health Plans Is Driving Innovation Through Integrated Care, SDOH & Technology,” led by Sandra Stein, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for Banner University Health Plans, outlines how Banner is addressing basic human needs first, before anything else. By offering individuals housing and food first, Banner can pivot further by connecting them to services and care. Through their partnerships with community-based providers, they can engage members in their care and connect them to medical and behavioral health services for further utilization.

Innovations In Consumer Engagement and Dan Lavallee, Director, Program Development from UPMC Health Plan will share Reframing The Definition Of Healthcare To Include Consumer Employment Programs.

Tuesday, October 4, will also offer two executive seminars to help incorporate proven OPEN MINDS best practices into organizational strategic plans. The morning will feature Finding An Electronic Health Record System For Your Future: An OPEN MINDS Executive Seminar On Best Practices In EHR Selection, Contracting & Optimization. With How To Develop A New Service Line: An OPEN MINDS Executive Seminar On Diversification Strategies, Feasibility Analysis & Successful New Service Development in the afternoon.

Monica E. Oss, Chief Executive Officer for OPEN MINDS, opens the day on October 5 with the results from The 2022 OPEN MINDS Executive Compensation & Retention Survey before turning it over to Margaret Mays, Vice President, Staff Accreditation with Beacon Health Options. Ms. Mays will present her keynote address, “Where Do We Fit? A Place For Specialty Provider Groups In Beacon Health Options Integrated Model,” offering the opportunities for specialty provider organizations to help lead the way in building this new model. The audience will have the opportunity for a deeper conversation in the thought leader forum following the keynote session.

Attendees attending the executive roundtable, “Women In Leadership: An Open Discussion On The Challenges & Opportunities,” will be part of the conversation regarding gender gaps and better leadership opportunities for women in their organization. The panel will feature Colleen Edwards, Senior Vice President, NextGen Healthcare; Barbara Banaszynski, Senior Vice President of Program Operations for Volunteers of America; Cari Cho, Chief Executive Officer witith Cornerstone Montgomery; and OPEN MINDS Executive Vice President, Kim Bond.

During the CFO Consortium Session, “Becoming An Efficient Organization – The Metrics Of Financial Strength & Streamlining Your Service Portfolio,” hear from Jeremy Wampler, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer for Acenda Health, on how to help ensure that you have the tools to monitor the financial strength of your service line portfolio by utilizing the right metrics and tools becomes a necessary competency for an efficient organization.

In the afternoon, attendees will have the opportunity to take the leadership skills learned in the classroom to the battlefield, literally. The session “Positioning For Success – General John Buford & The High Ground: The Beginning Of The Battle Of Gettysburg” will include a tour of the important sites from day one of the Battle of Gettysburg and will integrate a review of General Buford’s actions and how they apply to the health care market today.

For leaders who abides by the maxim that “Data is the New Oil,’ then “Data-Driven Decision Making: Using Data To Improve Your Market Position” is a must-attend session. Featuring Nancy Kukovich President and Chief Executive Officer for Adelphoi; Alice Kim, Chief Operating Officer with Cohen Veterans Network; and Luming Li, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at The Harris Center, you learn how to take your data and turn it into metrics you examine on a regular basis, what to do with the data you have, and how it informs your decisions and your organization’s strategic plan improve your market position

Most executive teams are dealing with staffing changes and shortages, including Hattie Tracy, Chief Executive Officer of Coleman Health Services, who will lead the topical case study, “Exit, Pursued By A Bear: A Lesson In Succession Planning.” During this session Ms. Tracy will discuss the struggles of a CEO planning for their exit. Learn strategies to ensure the next leader is the right leader, including where to start—within the organization or an external search, identifying the right skills and whether you have a say in the matter.

Afternoon sessions round out the day with Managing Your Online Reputation: How To Improve Your Digital Profile & The Perception Of Your Organization, Framework For Becoming A ‘Next Generation’ Organization, and Building A Diverse Management Team: Experiences From The Field. Following the retreat on Wednesday night will be a special private networking reception at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center.

The final day, October 6, opens with Ray Prushnok, Executive Director, UPMC Center For Social Impact & AVP, Government Programs for UPMC Health Plan, with his keynote, “Person-Centered Health For Complex Consumers – The UPMC Collaborative Approach.” The UPMC person-centered care model offers housing and enhanced household stability, addresses gaps in care, and provides a pathway to employment to in improved outcomes and provide a clear return on their investment. Join our keynote as he outlines how UPMC developed and implemented its model, future plans, and the role of specialty provider groups. Ray Prushnok will also be joining us for a post-keynote thought leader discussion where you can ask him questions and continue the conversation.

Attendees can round out their Thursday morning with Paul M. Duck, Senior Associate, and Stacey Fox, Vice President, Market Intelligence, of OPEN MINDS, as they lead the best practice session, “Best In Show: The Competitive Edge For Surviving In a Digital First Health & Human Service Market.” This session will offer five market opportunities for specialty provider organizations and how your organization can adopt these strategies for successful sustainability.

In the afternoon, join the “Leading In Times Of Uncertainty – Generals Lee & Longstreet At Pickett’s Charge: The High-Water Mark Of The Confederacy” session that includes a battlefield tour, a review of Generals Lee and Longstreet’s relationship and decision-making styles, leadership lessons learned from the Pickett’s Charge, and the application of those lessons for today’s health care executives.

Thursday’s sessions also include Cultivating Growth Mindset While Balancing The Day-To-Day and How Do You Know When It’s Time To Merge? Using MA&A Strategy To Improve Your Financial Strength.
