Maryland Selects Carelon Behavioral Health As Next ASO For Public Behavioral Health System
The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) selected Carelon Behavioral Health, Inc. as its next administrative services organization (ASO) for the state’s public behavioral health system (PBHS) under a contract to begin January 1, 2025. Carelon will manage an array of mental health and addiction treatment services for more than 1.7 million Medicaid beneficiaries. The current contractor is Optum under a five-year contract valued at $190 million, which is slated to end December 31, 2024.
