HHS Establishes Disincentives For Health Care Provider Organizations That Have Committed Information Blocking
On June 24, 2024, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) established disincentives for health care provider organizations that have committed information blocking. HHS has also reserved the right to create additional disincentives in the future. Information blocking is a practice by an "actor" (a person or an entity) that is likely to interfere with the access, exchange, or use of electronic health information (EHI), except as required by law or specified in an information blocking exception.
