Nearly half of 157,822 adults in Denmark who started semaglutide for weight loss stopped treatment within one year. About 13% had discontinued within three months, rising to 27% at six months, 39% at nine months, and 49% at one year.

The researchers defined discontinuation as a gap of at least 60 days after a person's expected prescription coverage ended. The study therefore did not establish why individuals stopped filling semaglutide prescriptions or whether they intended to permanently end treatment.
