California To Reduce Fees On Low-Income Families For 24-Hour Care Of Children With Developmental Disabilities
On October 5, 2015, California Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation, Assembly Bill (AB) 564, to change how the state Department of Developmental Services (DDS) calculates parental fees related to children receiving 24-hour care and services through DDS Regional Centers. Starting July 1, 2016, families earning between 100% and 200% of the federal poverty level will be exempt from the fee. For other families, monthly fees will be based on a percentage of the parents’ annual income.
