2% Rate Cuts Pending For 37% Of U.S. Physicians In Medicare Program Due To Failure To Meet Reporting Requirements
Medicare reimbursement rates during 2017 will be 2% lower for about 500,000 physicians who were eligible for the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) in 2015 but who did not meet the 2015 reporting requirements. The rate reduction affects Medicare Part B physician fee schedule charges during 2017. About 63% of the 1.3 million eligible professionals avoided the 2.0% reduction. Of the 501,933 eligible professionals who were subject to the adjustment, over 78% did not attempt to participate in PQRS, and almost 21% of those subject to the payment adjustment were participating as individual professionals.
