Two North Dakota Insurers Begin Voluntarily Providing Coverage For Applied Behavior Analysis
Starting January 1, 2018, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) and Sanford Health Plan began voluntarily providing coverage for applied behavior analysis (ABA). ABA is an evidence-based treatment for autism which addresses a health care consumer's behavioral symptoms associated with the disorder, and has the greatest impact when used for those at a young age. These changes are being implemented despite the failure of state House Bill 1434 in 2017, which would have required insurance companies in the state to provide coverage for applied behavior analysis.
